System i
IBM's brand name for the AS400/iSeries platform from 2006 to 2008. Part of IBM's unified Systems branding. Replaced by IBM Power Systems.
System i was the brand name IBM used for its mid-range business platform from 2006 to 2008, replacing the iSeries brand. The System i designation was part of IBM's broader system branding consolidation that created System i (midrange), System p (UNIX), System x (x86), and System z (mainframe) product families. The System i platform ran i5/OS and was positioned as IBM's premier integrated operating environment. In 2008, IBM separated the OS and hardware brands: the OS became IBM i and the hardware family became IBM Power Systems. System i is rarely used in active conversation today but appears frequently in documentation and licensing records from the 2006-2008 period.
