IBM Power Systems

Also known as: IBM Power, Power Systems

The IBM server hardware platform that runs IBM i (and AIX and Linux). The hardware successor to the AS400, iSeries, and System i platforms.

IBM Power Systems is the hardware product family that runs IBM i, AIX, and Linux workloads. IBM Power Systems replaced the separate iSeries (IBM i), System p (AIX), and BladeCenter hardware brands in 2008, creating a unified POWER-architecture server family. IBM Power hardware generations are identified by generation number: Power7 (2010), Power8 (2014), Power9 (2017), Power10 (2021), and Power11 (2024). IBM Power Systems are sold through IBM's direct sales force and through certified IBM Business Partners. The POWER processor architecture that underpins IBM Power Systems is also used in the OpenPOWER Foundation initiative and in IBM's collaboration with other hardware vendors. For IBM i customers, IBM Power Systems is the only hardware platform IBM i runs on.
