IBM i
The current official name for the operating system that runs on IBM Power Systems. Successor to OS/400 and i5/OS. The OS lineage of the AS400 platform.
IBM i is the operating system that runs on IBM Power Systems servers and constitutes the software core of what was originally called the AS400 platform. The name IBM i was introduced in 2008 when IBM separated the OS identity from the hardware brand (which became IBM Power Systems). Prior names for the same OS lineage include OS/400 (the original name from 1988 to 2000), i5/OS (from 2004 to 2008). IBM i is distinguished by its integrated DB2 for i database engine, its object-based security model, and its single-level storage architecture. Current IBM i releases are 7.3 (released 2016), 7.4 (released 2019), and 7.5 (released 2022). IBM i runs exclusively on IBM Power Systems hardware.
