iSeries

Also known as: eServer iSeries, iSeries 400

The brand name IBM used for the AS400 hardware platform from 2000 to 2006. Replaced by System i in 2006 and IBM Power Systems in 2008.

iSeries was the brand name IBM assigned to its mid-range business computer platform in October 2000, replacing the AS400 name as part of IBM's e-business era branding strategy. The iSeries hardware ran i5/OS (formerly OS/400) and remained backward compatible with AS400 software and data. Common iSeries models included the iSeries 270, 810, 820, 825, 830, 840, 870, and 890. The iSeries name was replaced by System i in 2006 during IBM's unified Systems branding initiative. The platform was further renamed when IBM separated the OS (IBM i) from the hardware brand (IBM Power Systems) in 2008. iSeries is still used colloquially by many IBM i professionals to describe mid-range IBM systems from the early 2000s era.
