IBM FlashSystem

IBM FlashSystem is IBM's family of all-flash and hybrid enterprise storage arrays, running IBM's Storage Virtualize software and typically populated with FlashCore Module NVMe drives. FlashSystem arrays attach to IBM Power hardware, including AS400/IBM i environments, through supported SAN host adapters, making them a common external storage option once an organization's internal DASD capacity or performance is exhausted. For AS400 and IBM i shops specifically, FlashSystem storage decisions usually come up alongside external SAN attachment planning during a Power hardware refresh or modernization project, rather than as a standalone purchase, since the array itself is often shared infrastructure serving other platforms in the same data center.
